Fresh strawberry harvest
SHEC’s Community Garden offers members a great place to grow organic vegetables.  With abundant sunlight, fertile soil and access to compost and water, thousands of pounds of food have come from the 13 plots over the last 15 years.  Each plot is 20’ x 20’ and will be rented to members for only $25 for the entire season.

Community Garden PlotSoule Homestead usually has tools and hoses gardeners may borrow (if put away when done), but many people prefer to bring their own. This is an organic garden. Fences are suggested but not required.  Chemical pesticides and fertilizers are not allowed.

Sally with sunflowersMany gardeners return year after year, but we usually have several new faces each spring. If you’re able to commit to the hard work and can put in the time (at least a few hours each week), a community garden plot may be right for you.
